I’m a teensy bit behind in my posting due to being knocked off my feet by a nasty cold but I’m determined! So here goes. This might possibly be one of my favorite projects…a DIY height chart.
The beauty of this one is that if you move, it can go with you.
We bought the board from HD, I sanded and stained it. This color was darker than what I had hoped but it grew on me.
I’m happy to say that THIS time I finally planned ahead and borrowed my sisters Cameo machine. Well, actually I went to her house and she cut the numbers for me while I fed Luke. Thanks Sis. Initially I wanted black numbers but with the stain so dark she talked me out of it, thanks again sis 🙂
I bought a paint pen from Michaels to mark the inches. Unfortunately, while under the influence of some good cold medicine, I accidentally deleted my photos showing how I marked these out. Basically I taped my tape measure to the board about an inch from the edge. Then I used a ruler to mark the shorter marks (we started the chart at 6″ knowing we needed to hang it above our molding). I then moved the tape measure over a little so that I could mark the longer marks. Then I laid out the numbers and mod podged them on.
We measured 6″ from the ground and hung it up with 2 screws. The whole thing cost around $15 for me.
I love it! The kids love it too but unfortunately my poor husband is on the fence about it. See in his last physical the nurse told him his height which was about an inch and a half shorter than he had always been. “It happens when you get older” she told him. Ouch. He liked to claim that she was just wrong and measured inaccurately. Until we hung this thing up…sorry babe.
If you love the look but aren’t into the DIY thing you can purchase one from the sight that inspired mine.
Jared- I did notice you looked a little shorter. I suspect you’ll be about as tall as Jack by Christmas. If you have to wear his old clothes, will they be hand-me-UPs?
Okay… cool post sis… but seriously? This is the second thing one of my sisters has made from Pinterest that I was going to make them for Christmas. I’m banning Pinterest from my life. Banning I tell you!!
Oops 🙂 Well there is PLENTY left on my Pinterest Boards that I won’t be geting to any time soon. xoxo
Okay… to be fair, I did re-pin it from your page. Drats!
Hi there! Stumbled across your blog and love it, especially love how your DIY growth chart turned out!
A few months back I asked my husband to help me make one for our boys and we had fun preparing the board, but got stuck on creating a neat, professional way to put on numbers and tick marks. We tried numerous methods, and weren’t happy with any of them, so decided to design a DIY vinyl decal that you can just transfer onto the board and were finally happy with it!
Since then, knowing how popular this project is, we actually opened a shop on Etsy to sell the decals for other DIY-ers who wanted to make a board but didn’t have the creativity or time to hand draw out or stencil numbers and tick marks. If you’d like to take a look, or recommend the shop in your post to others who might be frustrated by the same step as an option, it’s: http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleAcornsByRo
Maybe it will be a help to others out there!
Thanks and best wishes!
