Today’s ‘Pinspiration’ is this awesome little scarf

But we’ll get back to that in a moment. I’m about to digress as they say.

When I was younger (early college) I worked at Chilis as a waitress.  It was pretty fun as far as waitressing jobs go but as anyone who knows that has ever worked in the service industry, there are always “those nights”.  The kitchen is understaffed, there’s only one busser and you suddenly get a pop of people filing through the door.

And they all get sat in your section.

At the same time.

And you were hoping to get off early.

You are, as we would call it, in the weeds.

After awhile of working there I started to dream about work.  It was never a pleasant shift that my slumbering brain had me trapped in, but instead it was always one of those chaotic nights.  I lovingly (not) named those dreams ‘Chili-mares’.

Yesterday afternoon was my new awake version of a chili-mare – ‘mommy-mare’.  I’ll start off by mentioning how dog tired I was.  It was late afternoon and just about time to load up the kids to go pick up Jared from a meeting. Grace was still sleeping and it’s always a risk to wake that sleeping bear so I decided to wait.  I needed to blow-dry my hair, feed and change the baby, get Jack’s shoes on, wake my grizzly cub, load up the car and oh yeah, it’s getting late so I better do my photo shoot for this post before the sun goes down.

Oi.

I was maintaining, until Jack pushed me over the tipping point by doing his little potty dance and “Mommyyyyyyyy, I haf to go pottyyyyy!!!!”

So I rushed him into the bathroom which meant we both left Luke in the living room which does NOT fly with that boy.  Kid #1 starts crying.

I decide to kill two birds with one stone and bring my hairdryer into that bathroom while buddy is doing his business. Uh no, Jack does not like that idea so kid #2 starts crying.

Grace wakes up and is dangerously sensitive so when she and Jack start to fight over a flashlight (yes he’s still on the potty) kid #3 starts crying.

Awesome. I’m totally in the weeds.

Did I mention how tired I was?

So I snap out of my temporary stuper that I had drifted off to and just. keep. moving.  Well go figure, we survived.

So what does this have to do with a DIY braided scarf?  If I can make one with my super elementary sewing skills amongst all the chaos that is my household, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!  It’s pretty stinkin’ easy.  The tutorial over at “Put Up Your Dukes” is awesome!  She even posts a video for dumb-dumbs novices like me.

I wanted to show you the scarf in action so I thought I would set up a little self-portrait but um, well…you know.

*Sigh*

So I moved on to the true model in the house.

No it’s not meant for a child but let’s be honest here, a self-portrait photographer I am NOT.

Here it is doubled-up

Work it girl.

Most scarves I own make my neck itchy because of the material so I made sure to choose a nice soft knit. The material was a little bit pricier than I thought it would be but with a 20% off coupon on Jo-Ann’s it was still only $12!!

For anyone just peeking in on this blog for the first time, I’m in the midst of blogging for 31 Days on the topic ‘Pinspiration’.  You can check out more 31 Dayers here at Nesting Place.
