Get your pinning finger ready. I’m kicking of 31 days of Pinspiration with a post fully loaded with Pinterest inspiration: ‘Pinspiration’.
This past Saturday we threw a baby shower for one of my little sisters. It’s her first baby so we spared no detail and as they say ‘love is in the details’.
Her Nursery is a lovely purple and green and she’s used a few sweet birds here and there as a theme so that made it easy for us:
“Let the Nesting Begin”
Of course there was a Cupcake Tower.
Aren’t the little bird’s nests adorable? It’s bran cereal coated in melted chocolate, shaped in a cupcake tin (be sure to press down to make room for the ‘eggs’). You can use chocolate candy eggs or jordan almonds like we did here. Instead of bran cereal you can also use shredded wheat like in this tutorial on our friend Janna’s blog.
The cookies were made by a friend, Loretta from Sweet Southern Cookies. She ships all over the country so go check her out! They were so beautifully done and made the perfect favor for the party.
For decorations Joy tapped into her ‘crafty genius’ side and busted out the Cameo machine to make these straw holders (honoring the soon to be born Miss Sophia Grace) and name tags. Chevron paper straws from “Dress My Cupcake‘ but these can often be found on discount websites (such as Groopdealz) or at craft stores.
Doesn’t hurt when one of your sisters rocks at calligraphy too…
We sisters made a solemn vow to one another…no bad baby shower games. But you still have to give the momma to be something to smile about so…why not have everyone write a message on a diaper?
And well, a girl can’t have too many accessories, so we each made a personalized headband for Sophia.
Cucumber Water and a White Wine Punch (Pinot Grigio, Fresca, cut up fresh fruit, mint)
And then there was the food…
We served some Curry Chicken Salad in a lettuce cup (recipe here), Fruit Pizza (both regular and gluten free – recipe here), Brunch Casseroles and Roasted Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus.
Then of course there was the creme de la creme, the Mommy to be’s favorite…Key Lime Cake. Not a typo there, cake not pie!
For this, Sophia’s Grandma Jenean baked three shallow (vanilla flavored) layer cakes (the key being shallow – one came out too raised and she actually flattened it out!) She used 2 boxes for 3 shallow sheet cakes (you could also do round for a different look). In between each baked layer she spread a pre-made key lime pie filling (store-bought). She spread the rest on top and decorated the edges and center with whipped cream, lime zest and strawberries.
So. Decadent.
I’m pretty sure Sophia was doing a happy dance in Mommy’s belly after this.
Finally it was time to open presents – Daddy to be showed up for this part 🙂
My favorite baby book a good friend gave me at my first baby shower. “On The Night You Were Born”
I dare you to get through it without choking up.
Homemade baby bird mobile from Aunt Jackie
Is this my color?
What on earth are those you say? Why they are stuffed small intestines, appendix and a gall bladder of course.
What?
She’s a surgeon and Sophia needs to know what Mommy works with all day 🙂
We love you so much Jill and Corey and CAN’T WAIT to meet her.
Stay tuned everyone, you know I’ll be barraging you with newborn photos soon…
OHMYGOD. It was so beautiful!
Aww, Thank you! I really enjoyed doing the cookies for the shower. Best Wishes to the mommy and daddy to be!
Wow! What an awesome post. You girls are ALL so creative!
