We moved a lot when I was younger.  What I remember most is that right when we would move in I would have to set up my room immediately. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say I made my mom take me to pick out wallpaper (yes I’m that old) before all of the boxes were even unloaded.  I think I just wanted it to feel like ‘home’ as soon as possible. And well, patience was NOT my virtue.

I’ve chilled out a little since then – a little.  Mainly due to the fact that I have a billion other responsibilities in the form of 3 little humans. Or perhaps it’s because I’ve learned the hard way that it’s better to wait, take your time and set up your room/home a little bit at a time. I’ve wasted a lot of time and money trying to speed things along, and I never wind up liking the result anyway.

So I’m taking Grace’s room one project at a time.  It’s true, she’s 4 and would be happy with a sleeping bag in the middle of the room but I can’t help myself – I’m loving creating her space.  Obviously the hanging loft bed was the biggie, but the space under the bed I knew would take some more time.  I’ve chosen a couple of projects for her room during this 31 days and this heart mobile hung against her wall under the bed is the first:

I spied it on Pinterest and followed the link to Honeybee Vintage (so cute – check it out!).  She used posterboard, I used scrapbook paper.  Confession – I have a TON of scrapbook paper but have never actually scrapbooked (is that a word?) Instead I use it for other projects such as invitations or projects with Grace.

I began by cutting a bajillion hearts out, and about 3/4 of the way through as I was chatting on the phone with my sister she informed me “Oh, I should have let you borrow my Cameo!”

Picture the heel of my hand smacking my forehead.

Anywho. Next I dusted off my sewing machine. I might have cursed a few times trying to get a groove, maybe. Hey sewing paper is a new one to me.

But I love it!  More importantly (really, I swear) Grace loves it!

Stay tuned. More to come. I just can’t stop.

Do you have a hard time pacing yourself when decorating like me?
