If you happened to read my first post about the boys Cowboy Room you’ll remember I mentioned that I snuck another ‘Pinspiration’ in there.  So sneaky I am.

Here it is:

If you’re following my 31 Days board on Pinterest you probably guessed it.  If not…wait why aren’t you following me on Pinterest?

Anyway, I pinned this sign to my board knowing it was a must have for the room.  Jared has always called the boys ‘lil buckaroo’.  At first I thought I would do a 2×4 project to make this but I wanted something bigger.  Then I remembered…

See these shelves?

I happened to have another one in the garage.  I originally bought them from Ikea (and painted them) for our bedroom in the old house. I love shopping amongst my own storage!

So I sanded it down and got all the paint off.  I thought I had a dark wood stain but I didn’t so I shifted gears and did sort of a whitewash effect. Check out these crazy (or lazy?) paint skills – I simply used a damp paintbrush and brushed on the paint very lightly.  Then I found just the right scrapbook paper and tore around the edges (just like I did with this project) and Mod Podged it to the board.

Here’s where the project could have very easily taken a very sharp turn straight into the trash can.  I downloaded the western font from a free site and printed out the letters from Word onto regular office paper. I then nearly went crazy cutting each letter out by hand.  I know I know, borrow your sisters Cameo already!!!

I Mod Podged those on verrrrrrry carefully and against all odds considering my highly unrecommended method of putting this thing togethether…it turned out just how I wanted.

As I’m staring at this photo it’s bugging me how high it is on the wall but lil’ buckaroo is taking a nap so this picture will have to do until I can move it.

What do you think?

Do you have any projects that accidentally turned out awesome??
